You Do That Way Better Than I Do: Seeing Their Strength and Embracing Your Gifts

Google image
I have been pretty quiet today as I organized important paperwork, made some phone calls and basically took care of pressing business- oh, and there's more to do, of course!  Still, as is my usual way, I take more breaks when I am trying to get work done than any other time.  I spent my break times reading blogs and catching up on some of my private community groups.  This thought came to mind a couple of times, "I wish I could write like that" and "I wish I could share more like that", and "You do that way better than I do!"

I really admire the inspiration, the brave sharing, and the heart that is behind the posts I read.  And I had to catch that last thought of , "You do that way better..."  When I am moved by something I

Post Thanksgiving Fitness Friday: McDonald's, Ham, Potato Salad and Flan Do Not Make For Weight Loss Success

I'm not quite sure what happened between my last Fitness Friday post, but I think McDonald's Monopoly Game in October got in the way of me and my goals.  Ok, that would be blaming McDonald's instead of taking responsibility for what I put in my mouth, right? Let's then say, I understand that I am the only thing that really gets in the way of my goals and I do take 100% responsibility.  With that said, McDonald's really messed me up! Why must their fries taste so yummy? I don't even like fries like that, but give me a free coupon to use and I'm eating fries!  So, my workout and healthy eating regiment was thrown off by my diligent efforts to buy (and subsequently eat) McDee's in order to get more and more Monopoly pieces.  It was actually a team of us.  Boy, were we diligent!  We enjoyed chowing down on chicken nuggets, large fries, and of course McDee's yummy coffee- all of which provided us with more chances to win!  Did we gain anything after all was said and done? Yes! A few extra pounds! Ha! I don't regret any of it!

5 Facts About Me

1. I have a fraternal twin sister. My younger sis and I look more alike than my twin and I. My sisters are amazing human beings. We love each other. We hate each other. We teach other how to be better people (I hope)!

2. I don't think I'm accident prone, but the facts suggest, maybe I am? I've had stitches on my head, stitches by my temple on the side of my face, a broken thumb, and twice sprained right knee. You be the judge.

3. My concept of time is not from this time space reality. That's a fact. I do try to make sense of your people's time, but it's alien to me.

4. I am 100% LOVED & LOVABLE! And since I am made of LOVE, I try not to forget that fact. I practice remembering that every day of my life.

5. I have 5 tattoos and counting... There is something fascinating about the way a tattoo combines pleasure and pain. All my tats have special meaning either for what they represent or the context in time and personal experience that compelled me to get it. You can do a search on my page for the blog post where I talk about getting the Phoenix (Fire Bird) Tattoo- haven't yet, but one day.

Turn Back Tuesday: In July 2011 We Taped Family Feud and I Met An Amazing Atlanta Man

"Good evening beautiful. I hope your day was full of happiness and smiles. We are going to have to plan a trip for us. Maybe meet in the middle?"

I thought this Chicago trip might be that middle? But, unless he's going to magically arrive without knowing any of my details, I guess we won't be seeing each other just yet.

I'm going to call this man, Tut. We met innocently enough. I was with my family getting ready to tape the Family Feud in Atlanta and he was the person who in charge of getting us to and from our destination.

He's a beautiful black man with light green eyes. I spent a lot of time chatting with him, maybe too much- more nervous about the game show than talking to this delicious man.

Long story short, when we finished taping, Tut asked me out (which is a long story in itself- remember, this is NaBloPoMo and I need to get to the point and post). I had just lied to Steve Harvey earlier, talking about, I don't get dates (it was supposed to be funny) and here was a handsome gentleman asking me out for that night.

My cousins and sisters were excited for me and I was on a mission to look cute and sexy. My sister-cousin reminded me that he had seen me at my worst and best already (arriving from the airport I wasn't umm all put together ha) and so I couldn't go wrong.

He picked me up and we went to a local bar nearby. Over a few drinks, we bared our souls. We confessed how we could fall in love with each other right then and there.
Yup- it was intense!

Tut would visit one time, here in NY. He met lots of my family and even sat down with my dad to state his intentions! Yes, he did! That's just the kind of man he is.

It's been all these months and he's consistent with a text or a call and he's determined that THIS might work. I told him over the phone, I don't know what THIS is (what are we? Or does it matter?) but I'm open to seeing what we do and what we make of it.

I don't tell him about my dating life, but in a conversation we had recently, he said, "I know how men can be." He insisted, "I'm holding on to you and I'm not letting go. I'm not tight fisted either." I thought that was sweet.

I just want to see him. Hold him. Have him hold me- again.

They don't make men like that these days, but I know there's a man like that out there for me!

...kiss often,

~Vicky

Squeezing In A Post: #NaBloPoMo November 2011

Between battling my second cold of the season and getting ready for a friend's baby shower, I knew I would need to get a post on here for November 6th, but when??

Maybe, you don't know what I'm talking about.  Let me fill you in!

NaBloPoMo is National Blog Posting Month.

NaBloPoMo November 2011's theme is,"Blogging for blogging's sake as described on Blogher.com where the NaBloPoMo or NaBlo for short, activities are housed.

So basically, the close to 3,000 bloggers that signed up for NaBlo on Blogher.com have made a commitment to attempt to post every day on their blogs for the month of November!  We had until Nov 5th to enter for the month and so my day one started yesterday!

Anyway, it is currently 11:38pm and I will need to post right away because 1. I am really kind of sick and my eyes can't take the computer screen anymore 2. It is imperative to post before midnight to qualify for my day's post 3. I knew going into this that I would need to go short and sweet so I could do it all- BLOG, WORK, PERSONAL LIFE!

Anyway, I think this should a great learning experience and a fun way to sharpen some skills and maybe do things a little differently.

On another note, I leave for LATISM '11 on Wednesday so my posts will be mobile posts from my Blackberry.  Tweaking those posts will have to come later, but they will be done day after day!  I am gonna keep to NaBloPoMo!

Happy Blogging!  Are you taking part too?

The Path to Good Relationships is Paved with Hills, Valleys, and Mountain Tops

I tweeted this tonight.   Twitter @docsabia
I was on Twitter earlier and tweeted about something I love- relationships!  I had just finished reading and retweeting some excellent tweets on the subject when I ended my retweet session with my own tweet about what one has to do to make a good relationship:
  1. Communicate Authentically
  2. Be Kind to each other
  3. Take Action towards a common goal.

Thoughtful Thursday: Practical Kindness and What It Means For Your Business; Exploring "Enchantment" As A Tool For A Better You, A Better Business, and A Better Way To Relate with Others

Part of my mission in life is to share practical ways we can be kind and act with authentic compassion in our day to day lives as well as when presented with unique challenges or events that can be very troubling.  This post is a food for thought.  I found the work of Guy Kawasaki and thought- he is techy who is teaching a systematic way to be authentically kind (he calls his process "Enchantment") as it relates to running a business, working with employees and managers, and building something bigger for oneself.  And this is exactly why I wanted to share his two infographics from his blog.  Maybe it will help you find a new way to deal with a person in your life, maybe it will be the answer to how you would like to move forward in your business, or maybe it will just make you think twice about what kind of smile you are sharing with others- a real one or fake one, and what that means for you!

Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Wordless Wednesday: What Happened to In Good Times and In Bad? Commitment? Marriage? And Not Defaulting to Divorce?

The Six Telltale Signs You Might Be Headed For Divorce -The Examiner

Ever since Jennifer and Marc finalized their divorce, I'm not so interested in celebrity marriage failings.  I like to focus on the few amazing examples in my real life of successful marriages.  I know before I ever even utter "divorce", it will be after nothing more was left to do.  And that's what is so sad about the state of marriage today.  Where is the commitment in marriage? She wants the clock, and he wants the lamp.  What about the heart?
